Organizations that are shaping the workplace of tomorrow with Personizer

Without a digital interface: What costs HR teams time every day
Excel, email, follow-up questions
Anyone who manually exports master data or absences and sends them to their tax advisor via email is using a process that an API could handle in seconds. Errors occur during the copying process, not in the system itself.
Paper sick notes: long since obsolete under the law
As of January 1, 2023, employers are required to retrieve electronic certificates of incapacity for work (eAU) digitally from health insurance providers. Anyone still waiting for paper certificates is in violation of this legal requirement.
Pay stubs by mail or via a third party
If employees cannot view their pay stubs digitally, it leads to follow-up questions and the need to send them out. Soon, Personizer will upload pay stub PDFs directly to the digital personnel file.
Four DATEV interfaces in one HR software package:

For every role in the company
FOR HR MANAGEMENT
Less manual data maintenance
Absences, master data, and sick leave notifications are handled automatically through DATEV. No more Excel spreadsheets, no more back-and-forth emails with the tax office. You can focus on HR work, not data transfer.

FOR THE MANAGEMENT
Legally compliant processes, no extra work
The eAU requirement has been a legal requirement since January 1, 2023. Personizer implements it automatically. Payroll data is always accurate and up-to-date, without you having to manually monitor the process.

FOR THE TAX ACCOUNTING FIRM
Structured data instead of
Excel attachments
Instead of manually processing incoming Excel files, master data and absences are imported in a structured format via the DATEV interface. This reduces the need for follow-up inquiries and speeds up the payroll process.

Frequently Asked Questions About the DATEV Interface
Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions. If you need further assistance, please feel free to contact our support team.
How much does the DATEV interface cost?
The DATEV interfaces are included in the respective Personizer modules at no extra charge. You only pay for the module you actually use: Time Tracking (starting at €2.59 per employee per month for a 24-month term), Leave Planner (starting at €2.10), or Employee File (starting at €0.70). No base fee, no implementation costs.
What DATEV software is required?
Personizer’s DATEV interfaces work with DATEV LODAS and DATEV Lohn & Gehalt. Your tax advisor’s office needs to activate the connection once.
Who sets up the interface?
Your tax office will activate your account in DATEV. After that, you’ll set up the connection in Personizer yourself: just enter your advisor ID and client ID, and you’re done. The setup takes just a few minutes.
Is the eAU requirement already in effect?
Yes. Since January 1, 2023, employers in Germany have been required to retrieve electronic sick leave certificates (eAU) digitally from health insurance providers. Paper certificates for employers are no longer issued. Personizer enables this retrieval directly via the DATEV interface.
Can I use Personizer without the DATEV interface?
Yes. The DATEV integration is optional. Personizer functions as a complete HR software solution even without a DATEV connection. The interface is particularly useful if your tax office uses DATEV—which is the case for most German SMEs.
What data is exchanged with DATEV?
Depending on the activated interface, Personizer transfers the following data: eAU data (sick leave notifications, via the Payroll Data Exchange Service), employee master data and absence periods (vacation, parental leave, sick days — via the Payroll Import Data Service), payroll PDFs (via the Payroll Evaluation Data Service, coming soon), and salary data (via the Payroll Results Data Service, coming soon).
For businesses of what size is the DATEV integration suitable?
Personizer’s DATEV interfaces are designed for small and medium-sized businesses with 15 to 100 employees. The basic requirement is that your tax office uses DATEV—which is standard practice for small and medium-sized businesses in Germany.

DATEV Interface for HR Software: What You Need to Know
What HR data does Personizer transfer to DATEV?
Personizer connects to DATEV LODAS and DATEV Payroll via four official DATEV data services:
The Payroll Data Exchange Service enables the retrieval of electronic certificates of incapacity for work (eAU). Since January 1, 2023, employers have been legally required to retrieve eAUs digitally from health insurance providers. Personizer automates this process directly through DATEV.
Via the Payroll Import Data Service, Personizer transfers employee master data and absence periods (vacation, parental leave, sick days) directly to DATEV. Your tax office receives the data in a structured format and does not have to enter it manually.
The Payroll Evaluation Data Service (coming soon) provides PDF evaluations such as gross/net pay stubs and income tax certificates directly in Personizer’s digital personnel file.
The Payroll Results Data Service (coming soon) retrieves salary data from DATEV and displays it in Personizer’s personnel file. Employees can view their salary information directly in the software.
Why does an SME need a DATEV interface in its HR software?
In most German SMEs, an external tax advisor handles payroll accounting using DATEV. This means that any information the tax office needs for payroll processing (absences, changes to master data, sick leave notifications) must be provided by the company.
Without a digital interface, this is done via Excel exports, emails, and occasionally even by mail. This takes time, leads to errors, and results in follow-up inquiries. A direct DATEV interface in the HR software completely eliminates this media discontinuity.
In addition, the legislature mandates specific digital processes: The eAU requirement effective January 1, 2023, and the mandatory recording of working hours pursuant to the Federal Labor Court (BAG) ruling of September 13, 2022 (Ref. 1 ABR 22/21) make digital HR tools with DACH compliance and DATEV integration essential basic equipment for SMEs.
How does the eAU requirement work for employers in Germany?
As of January 1, 2023, the electronic certificate of incapacity for work (eAU) has replaced the paper certificate for employers. Doctors submit sick leave notifications electronically to health insurance providers. Employers are required to actively retrieve this data digitally, either directly or through a certified system such as DATEV.
Personizer uses the DATEV Payroll Data Exchange Service to retrieve eAUs directly via DATEV LODAS or DATEV Payroll & Salary. The sick leave notification appears automatically in Personizer and is assigned to the corresponding absence. HR management and tax advisors can view the information simultaneously and in a traceable, documented format.
Prerequisite: The tax office must activate the eAU interface in DATEV. After that, simply entering the consultant number and client number in Personizer is sufficient.
